Long ago in an ancient, whispering forest, the mighty teacher Guru Drona gathered his royal students under a giant banyan tree. Today was a very special day—it was a magical test of skill!
High up in the green branches, Guru Drona placed a golden wooden bird. It looked so real that its painted feathers shimmered in the bright morning sun!
"My brave princes," Drona smiled, holding up a shining bow. "Step up one by one. Take aim at the bird’s eye. But before you shoot, you must answer one question: what do you see?"
The first prince stepped up, feeling excited and proud. "I see the golden bird, the green leaves, the big tree, and the fluffy clouds in the sky!" he said happily.
Guru Drona gently shook his head. "Put down your bow, little prince. You are not ready to shoot today."
One by one, the other brothers tried. They all saw the wide branches, the sweet mangoes on the tree, and their friends watching from below. And to each one, Guru Drona kindly said, "No, not today."

Finally, it was the turn of the brave prince Arjuna. He picked up his bow, feeling completely calm and still. He pulled the string back with a gentle twang. His eyes were locked tightly on his target.
"Arjuna," Guru Drona asked softly, curious to hear his answer. "Do you see the tree, the branches, or the clouds in the sky?"
Arjuna did not look away. "No, my Teacher," Arjuna whispered calmly. "I do not see the tree. I do not see the leaves. I only see the tiny eye of the wooden bird."
Guru Drona beamed with pride! "Then shoot, my boy!"
SWOOSH! The arrow flew fast and straight, gently tapping the wooden bird right in the center of its eye! All the brothers clapped and cheered for Arjuna!
The Secret Superpower: A Teaching from the Bhagavad Gita
In the Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 2, Verse 41), Lord Krishna teaches Arjuna the secret to having a superpower mind:
"Vyavasāyātmikā buddhir ekeha Kuru-nandana
Bahu-śākhā hy anantāś ca buddhayo ’vyavasāyinām."
What It Means
Krishna says that a strong, determined mind has one single focus—just like Arjuna looking only at the bird's eye! But a distracted mind wanders off in a million directions, like a tree with endless scattered branches—just like the other princes who couldn't stop looking at the leaves, the clouds, and the tasty mangoes!
Your Daily Superpower
Whenever you are doing your homework, drawing a picture, or cleaning up your toys, don't let your mind wander into the "many branches." Be just like Arjuna—lock your eyes on your goal and give it your whole heart!
What Would You Do?
If you were standing under the big tree with Arjuna, what do you think would distract you the most—the singing birds or the tasty mangoes in the branches?
What is one activity you love doing where you focus so hard that you forget everything else around you?
